History of Avtolus

Avtolus, The Land of the Twelve Gods, is a wondrous land full of both normalcy and extremes. From the great floating city, Adalet, in the Crags where justice reigns supreme, to the lowly fishing villages around the coast of the Sirkel where your end of day haul is what'll feed you for the next week, there is a niche everywhere. From magic to might, from the scholar to the craftsmen to the warrior, there are a wide verity of people in the land.
Avtolus is now experiencing a time of great peace, but such was not always the case. Two Myr ago, before humanity was much more than wandering people of fire and stone, the Twelve Gods battled one another for the right to rule. This War of the Heavens left its mark on the land. In a battle between Taurus and Scorpio a lot of Scorpio's poison seeped into the land, creating a waste land. Libra and Virgo fought in a mountainous area and released so much power into the land that the mountains began to float. No one truly knows much about how the war came to an end, but when the dust settled all but Leo laid defeated. Leo, having not participated in the fighting, looked upon his siblings and roared his frustration with their petty squabbling. He declared he would split the realms and give share to everyone. To the sea and the great storm he gave lordship to Pisces. To the right of Law he gave Libra. The responsibility of the dead was given to Scorpio. He went on and on, dividing power. In the end, he took to the sky, declaring that his domain would be to watch over the rest of the Gods. It was then that Taurus, now made the Great Shield, asked to whom would the rights of the land be given. The many God's clamored for the right to rule the land itself. Leo roared once more. The rights of the lands would be given to the humans, for they would be more worthy of it then the God's themselves. He then created the credence of isolation. He forbid the God's from interfering with the lives of humans. However, the God's would only obey for so long...
As the time of men developed, the God's tried to influence them as much as they could within the limits of the credence. They gave blessings in exchange for worship. They spoke to champions who did their bidding. Eventually, the inevitable happened. A war between men broke out. The Holy Wars consumed the land. However, it was not Leo who ended this conflict. Cancer, who had very few followers, could stomach the bloodshed no more. Reaching deep into the depths of the The Rift, a deep chasm in the Sansu Sea, and pulled out darkness. Using the essence of fear that now saturated the land he created what he thought was the perfect ending to the war. He would give humanity a common enemy to worry about: He created Monsters. Thus began the Dark Era.
As monsters began to attack humanity was pushed back to the furthest reaches of Avtolus. Eventually a single man came forward. He proposed an alliance, one that would allow for all people to unite against the beasts that now corrupted the land. It worked, for a time. The slaughter may not have been stopped, but it was slowed. The God's looked on in horror, unable to do anything. It was Gemini who came forward and confronted Leo. The other nine Gods all agreed, something need to be done. After much arguing, Leo relented. He allowed each God to bestow a blessing on the world. To man was given Law and Order by Libra; Strength and Glory by Ares; Labor and Loyalty by Taurus; Justice and Virtue by Virgo; Skill and Wild by Sagittarius; Harvest and Commerce by Capricorn; Knowledge and Understanding by Aquarius; Travel and Trade by Pisces; Passage and Shadows by Scorpio. Lastly, seeing all of these wonderful gifts, Gemini brought forth the power of the heavens, formed it and infused it into the other gifts, creating true power from them. The left over residue descended to Earth, creating Magic. With these blessings and the new found magic, humanity pushed back the hoard, forcing them into the darkest recesses of the world.
Thus began the Age of Magic
A hundred years has pass and peace has reigned. Humanity has built wondrous monuments to honor the Gods. Cities have sprouted up and civilization now begins to evolve into something beautiful. However, the darkness has begun to stir. How long will this peace hold? How long until the darkness of man comes forth again? Only time will tell.
